“After 3 knee surgeries over 9 years I had been going in and out of physio and then not being able to do much exercise at certain times. I had along the way got back into my normal exercise, but then that got interrupted by more knee injuries. I was getting frustrated with not exercising and I had to give up playing touch rugby after my third knee op. Slowly, over time, I lost fitness and started to gain some weight. My diet wasn’t very healthy either and so I needed to reset everything and get my mojo back!
I weighed myself at the gym one day and was surprised to see that I had put on more weight than I had thought. That was quite the motivation point for me. I attended a presentation from Tanya at my gym which gave me the first step to get back on track. A weekly food plan appealed to me as that gave me a schedule and format to follow, which I really like. After about 4 weeks when I was getting into a routine with my food shopping, preparation and cooking I could feel my clothes fitting better. I was feeling healthier and less uncomfortable after eating and far less bloated.
I have learnt a lot about food and nutrition and it has enabled me to continue on my own with making good choices. Remembering some simple dynamics of food groups and timings and making healthy meals and snacks in advance to keep on track has been pivotal. I have actually really enjoyed the process and am motivated to continue to make good food choices and having a balance as I love food and enjoy eating out and not missing out on the things I love to eat. I have learnt for me, that moderation and balance is the key. Being more aware of what you are eating and how that affects your mind and body makes a big difference to health, fitness and general well-being. From working with Tanya, I lost 21 pounds.”
